Now I have a pair of chanchos that I got from Rapps. Are the wild caught specimens the only ones that display the nice yellowish color like this photo of GMFISHNUTS Chancho?

The pair I have are F1. The male is around 7in and the female is around 7 as well. Now my male has hints of the yellow around his gill plate area.

Still has that greyish or silver color to him. Here is the female...

Any help with these MFK?

Your chanco will most likely color up further as it gets older.

However, just so you know that picture of GMFISHNUT's is most likely not an accurate representation of the fish seen live. Special lighting and editing of the picture could have been a factor in the color shown.

If you want your Chanco's yellow color enchanced, simply replace a bulb with a SUN-GLO bulb or similar in color.

Nice fish, i regret selling mine, but at the time space was limited and they deserved better.
I'm definatly going to keep them again when the time is right. They are awesome fish just like most Amphilophus! :)

Or GMFISHNUT'S fish is like 15" and is several years older than danny2875's...

Just give it time. You can't compare a juvenile to a mature adult.

Agreed...give it time. 7" for a chancho is like a teenager. They've still got a lot of growing and coloring up to do. :)

Thanks. He is growing like a beast. He is starting to outgrow the female. He has alot of personality. He is the first one to greet me when its feeding time.

His pic is not off. I seen that fish in person and he displays alot of his yellows just like the photo. But I agree with you guys, he is still growing and maturing into his colors.

Is he alone? My male chancho was bright green from about the 4-5" mark. He was in a community tank with other Amphilophus type fish. I'm pretty sure being in the community setting played into it. He had females all around him.

He is in a amph community with a female.

I agree as well - he still needs to mature. You couldn't pick a better fish - its my favorite.

Thanks again. I have to post new pics of him. That pic is when I first got him. He is a lot bigger now. Seems like he is putting on way more bulk than his fellow amph tankmates that are his size or bigger. This fish has a very robust build to it.
