so... i was getting a 250 gallon fish tank, something happened on the move and it broke a side piece, transporting it standing up on its side with ratchets in the truck, they were all next to each other, the pressure when taking a corner bent my truck tie down and it all fell over
I still have 2 sheets of 8x2 ft glass, and one that i could cut at like 2x5 ft, would it be possible to use this and make a plywood bottem as long as i coat it and use the 2x5 piece as sides and cut them down to 2x2? so that everything is glass except for the bottem? I have read up on some peopl's plywood tanks and woundering if i could do it with this one, thanks

I'm about to do pretty much the same thing with some glass I picked up for a 180. I'm cutting the bottom in half and using those pieces for the sides and making the bottom out of plywood. 180 becomes 300+ :P

So, from my research it seems like it would work. However, you've been presented an opportunity to go bigger ;) Cut that 5' piece in half and have a 8' x 2' x 30" tank and net yourself another 60 gallons ;)

I would use a split glass bottom in a situation like this. Just butt up your 5 foot bottom piece with another 3 foot bottom piece. You dont even need an overlapping join. I do this on longer tanks anyway since this allows better flex.

well, i already got the plywood and everything, im going to cut slots in the plywood for the glass to sit, already covered it in the marine resin, and im also going to put put pond liner down on the bottem of it.and silicone it to the glass just to make sure that the its really good at holding the water in

sorry no pix yet, but i did get it up and running so it does work :)
its 8' by 24" by 30" i did a couple coats of resin then siliconed some pond liner to it after I had attached all the glass pieces then I used a paint roller and painted a layer of silicone over the pond liner in case there was any holes and siliconed the edges of the pond liner to the glass
works great!

Hmmm, interesting... And the silicone bonded to the pondliner?
