My 2 Limas one is about 6" other is about 4 1/2" are fighting. The larger one wont let the smaller one hangout with him, the smaller one keeps trying to swim in the current with the bigger one but the bigger one will push him away and try to bite him. The smaller one was getting to large for the tank at my moms work so I rescued him, he was on feeder only diet and he hasnt tried to eat any of the shrimp or pellets I feed the fish. Any ideas? should I get another lima to help out?

Im pretty sure this is the catfish forum but where are all the catfish know-it-alls

Hey, I don't claim to be a know it all, but I have kept tons of these guys, and I can tell you that when you first introduce them together it is almost always rough. They hunt in packs in the wild(sometimes in your tank) so they have a hierachy of sorts. They must scwabble for a while to figure out who is dominant. Usually after a month or two they will settle down, and swim gracefully with each other. Adding another one right now would probably only add to the confusion. I had problems adding my second, and then my third, but now they're best friends and swim verticle together all the time. Hope this helps.

Maybe there just aggressive towards there own species because mines with cichlids and another catfish of a different species and he bothers no one.

They hunt in packs, and you could keep probably up to 10 of them together just fine, but you would need a massive tank for 10 full grown limas.

so you're sayin my 29 gallon won't work for that? i guess i could put the 10 limas in my 55 :naughty:

if the lima isn't eating, just give it some time, it'll see your other lima eating shrimp and stuff and eventually it'll get hungry enough to just eat them.

i got my lima to eat anything by putting it into a tank with cichlids and a power head that pushed the flakes in the current

Try krill and bloodworms few fish, esp catfish will pass them up!

I have never kept two LSN together....their just TOO hard to find in my area...I got my lima to eat pretty much anything I give it...it must have had something to do with when I purchaced my pictus cat and four lines....anything they eat he seems to want it too...maybe i just have a
copy-catfish...(really bad joke) Umm try getting your smaller one eating...maybe this is a sign to the bigger one that he wont be larger for long.... so eat up...generally they dont like flakes....carnivor pellets work sometimes though..

as for the fighting necro pretty much has the best advice around...

id buy another to spreed out any aggression 2 is useually the worst number to keep when dealing with fish that show any aggression
