I have a 180g at the moment , I want to add some bottom dwellers . If I get 3 x Lima shovel noses ( 6" ) will that be an ample amount for them to feel secure as I know they prefer to be in a group when young ?
Also I plan to put in a 7/8" lapredi birchir and a 6" tigrinus , just curious what people think of the chances of them getting on ? I know fish are unpredictable and every case is different .

I'd say do 5. Don't know how the tig will treat them though...

Six is a good number, but lima needs more than a group to be comfortable. They are timid, skittish fish, neither do they like much current. They like dim lighting. They don't take bullying or predatory advances well. They do not compete for food well with super zealous feeding tank mates but being in a large group helps a lot, if not right away then eventually.

You are totally right - every case can differ. With a tig and a bichir, if a lima doesn't fit in their mouth at all, chances are it should be ok.
