I got my lima shovelnose today. I knew i shouldn't have used the net I have to get him out but I did and his spines got caught in the net. I couldn't pull him out I thought I would rip the spines right out so I cut the net around the fins. So will the netting fall off on its own or should i get it all off myself? His Fins split from the spine, will the net stop the fins from reattaching?

Pic and vid of him.

I'de use a pair of small very sharp scissors like alot of sewing women use or possibly from the make-up department. need to very sharp and tiny ideally to trim it off. and very carefull. but it needs to come off. or it is possible it will get healed into/around the fin and cause problems as the fish grows. and you need to watch for bacterial issues. I'de do it asap personally.

What will be the best way to get him out of the tank? I went out and bought a fine mesh net that the lfs guy said should work but I dont want him to get caught in it

I use glass pints for my Rafi cats Plecos and other barbed cats but their all pretty small, if you can get your hands on a big enough Pitcher long enough Id try that since there are no small spots to tangle. Plastic or Glass or similar materials will be great just capture and remove water.

Also ...

I usually bait traps to catch my guys. Usually curiosity gets the best of them ESP with bottom feeders. A dark hole with food in it Mmm how can they resist
