I have had my 6in lima for a couple weeks and tonight i saw him do somthin really weird. I noticed what looked like (and had to be) some clear skin hanging off his tail. All of the sudden it swam off eratically as if to shake the sluffing skin off and then turned around and ate the skin :screwy: i have heard of amphibians eating their skin but not fish. Anybody else expierence this? water and temp are fine.

I saw similar to this back when I had a Lima only hed spit out his Sluffed skin. Most catfish do "shed" skin at times, Ive seen Limas do it, Marble cats do it, an 4-line cats do it. But none have actually eaten the skin theyve always Spat it out. I wouldnt worry bout it.

some people eat their boogers
some fish eat their skin!

I don't think that is skin, they don't shed like a reptile does.

It is most likley exsessive mucus sloghing off (slime coat). May not be anything to worrie about but also could be a warning sign. Fishes slime coat is thier defence aginst water borne problems like parasites for example. Often times when a fish has excessive mucus coat it is because something is irratating them. Watch closly for parasites and test your water quality too.

I have had fish do this though and nothing ever happened and the water tested out fine. I
