i have a lima that every time i turn both lights on, sheds its slime coat they are not verry bright lights and water params are in check. it is the only cat in the tank that does this what culd it be or are they just super sensitive to light. any help welcome. thank you

Which light do you turn on first, the room lights or the aquarium lights? Turn on the room lights first before the tank lights. If you wish to turn them off, turn off the aquarium lights first before the room lights.

Where is the tank located?
What are your water parameters?
Foods?
Maintenance schedule?
Filtration?
Tank size?
Tankmates?

the tank lights are on a timer and it is a 55 galon for now. tank mates are 1 10 inch lace cat 1 7 inch albino channel cat and 1 jack demsy to fill upper water collumo and 1 siamese algae eater. i do water changes every other week @ 50%. water params are 0 ammonia ph 7.5 water temp 78 deg f.i will get back to you on nitrate and nitrite ran out of test equip the other problem is that it will only eat feeders it spits out any frozen or flakes and pellets. how can i get it away from feeders. thank you.

Even if your lights are on timer, that does NOT help which lights get switched on first if you are saying your catfish is sensitive to light. If you have to minimize its skittish attitude towards light as much as possible, make a shaded portion of the tank or try to maintain that you turn room lights on first before the tank lights.

What test kit do you use? Did you conduct the test before or after a water change? Your large water change can shock your fish considering the discrepancy between water changes you conduct. Every other week is too inadequate.

What frozen foods did you try so far? Did you add garlic on them? Wean all your fish off from feeders. You'd need to teach them to eat other foods that are far safer than feeders otherwise they are at risk of getting sick very easily.
