Hi,
I have a Red Tail Catfish witch i will be moving into a 40" 24" 24" tank or 360 liters.
I will be putting an 8" Lima Shovelnose with my 5" RTC.
Will the Shovel eat the RTC?
What are Limas growth rate per month?

There are no guarantees because each fish is an individual .but in general as long as they are well feed limas don't really try to eat fish close to their size. However if the RTC gets bigger then the lima it might try to eat it. It should be able to keep pace with the RTC in growth though.

Lima is not aggressive at all. I have had one with 4 rope eels for about 4 months and I haven't seen him do anything except blend in with surroundings. He stays hidden (actually out in the open but it is hard to see him because he suspends vertically perfectly still) all day and comes to the front of the tank to dance for us at night. All catfish that I have ever had seem to do the same thing. Come to the front of the tank and go up and down on the glass.

Being that this post is over 4 months old, I am assuming that your redtail has outgrown the lima by several inches. Limas seem to grow EXTREMELY slow!

yeah limas are cool and good at hiding but they learn to begg for food by dancing in the front of the tank as mattheuw1 said.

i'd be more worried about the RTC outgrowing the lima and eating it
so would i, limas are usually very sedentary, whereas the rtc would try to eat the lima as soon as it thought it might fit in its mouth

it's going to take about 3 weeks before they are the same size... after that... that lima could be in trouble if you miss a feeding... just an FYI for ya ;)
I agree totally, speaking only from my own experience RTC's are a lot faster growers and alot hungrier.I have never seen any aggression out of my 2 Lima's-14-15" and 9-10".
