I recently picked up a Lima Shovelnose and having visited Reading MA looking for food for him as I don't think he was really eating the pellets and other bits I put in. I was basically told I could kiss all my fish goodbye once he's big enough.

Has anyone else on here got a similar setup to me and if so how have they got on?

As recently documented I put in 12 Penguin tetra which didn't last a week. So know he is accustomed to the taste of fish. I'm trying muscle which the Loaches have gone mental for! Bloodworms are a regular in there too.

Set-up is 6x1.5x2ft
1x 7" Flagtail
2x 3-4" Pictus
6x 3-4" Clown Loaches
4x 4-6" Angelfish
3x 2"Black Widow Tetra
1x 5"Lima Shovelnose

Thanks
Leigh

I have similar fish in with my Pima and he does well with all of them. I have angels, pictus, clown loaches, bala sharks and a red tail shark all in the same size tank as you. In 1.5 years my Pima has grown from 5 inches to about 7.5 and he is still very nice to everyone. They are slow growers. It took a while for him to become a good eater. He is still shy and prefers to eat with the lights out. He eats pellets, shrimp, night crawlers pinched into small bites, and black worms. I hope this helps you.

I apologize but I didn't notice the 2" tetras when I replied. They should be moved out. Really think you are safe with everyone else. I have had a few pimas over the years and they are good with others unlike their cousins like tiger shovel nose which will eat anything and everything.

Funny how every tank is just a little different for each of us. I have had my little rubber lip Plecoptera in with my Pima without any issues. Maybe it's because I am a heavy feeder and have a lot of caves and plants.

Cheers GB. It was definately the hard way. I had no intention of putting the Penguins in just to be eaten. A damn expensive dinner for him!!

I've never been interested in Plecs mainly down to the fact all I've read is I wouldn't have a tank big enough to house one properly. The same reason I haven't got an Arowana and tht I would lose it.

I'll see what happens with Ace and how he gets on. At the moment he spends alot of time under my fake mangroves with the Pim Pictus so would hope that he doesn't see them as food, more freind.

Totroc, on the widow front I'll be handing them over to someone once I've found a suitable home!

I'll dig some pics out later and thanks for the advice :)
