Does anybody here know of Lima´s breeding in home tanks ?
I have two Limas in my 200G, both came to the country at the same time, over a year ago. I bought one and recently got the other one for free since he is one-eyed and a piece of his jaw was bitten off by a snakehead.
He also ate very little with the previous owners.
Anyways, i moved 2 weeks ago and for the last few days they have been acting very oddly, they spin around each other, side by side, biting each others tail...
I thought this might be some courtship behaviour, possible triggered by the big water changes following the move.
Both Lima´s are the same size: 10", and i have noticed that the Lima who starts this behaviour has been eating much more then usual but other Lima has however been getting a much bigger belly and it doesnt seem to get smaller so i thought that one was the female, full of eggs ?
I didnt find any info on Lima´s breeding in aquariums on the internet but i read that they are nest-builders, which gave me some hope of success if they would breed since i thought they were egg-scatters.
But i do not know anything about how this nest-building of theirs is.
All comments and help welcome!
And here are pics of the two, taken before I moved
The one-eyed one, which i suspect to be the male if this is courtship behaviour:
and the one i have had since he was 4", hopefully the female:
