I bought my Lima 2 weeks ago, and he's doing fine, but I can't get him to eat pellets. He will hit Massivore and Shrimp Pellets but he always spits them right out, I think Massivore smells good to him but the hard texture throws him off. He does eat raw shrimp, which I am fine with feeding him, but is this enough nutrition to support a healthy long life?

I starved him the entire first week trying to get him on massivore, and then as soon as I added raw shrimp for my cichlids weekly treat he gobbled that up fast and got a fat belly.

I was thinking of shoving a massivore pellet in the shrimp chunk to see if it works, but if shrimp is an ok diet alone, I wont bother.

it took awhile, like 2 months, before mine would take pellets, i feed mine pellets and ghost shrimp, and blood worms, he even ate my pike cichlid:(

Mine was the same took a wile to convert and even then i'd occasionally notice some of the smaller fish missing and the lima looking a bit chubby!

Mine would never eat pellets. I have three over the years and they all would only eat shrimp, bloodworms, and occasional feeders, but never pellets.

I wanted to post an update in-case anyone else out there gets a new Lima.

My Lima now eagerly eats pellets of all forms, and goes crazy for cichlid sticks. For the first month it would only eat raw shrimp, and although I tried to ween it by starvation, it would get so skinny I would give in and give it a shrimp. However 2 wks ago while competing with my Jack for shrimp chunks, my Jack grabbed some pellets, so my Lima did the same, and to my surprise didn't spit them out this time. Since then, it combs the top of the water during feeding eating all floating pellets and cichlid sticks it comes across, until its belly is a balloon. Still wont eat singing pellets like massivore or shrimp pellets, but I have no doubt that it will before long.

So If you have a Lima that you want to eat pellets, keep at it, it may eventually make the conversion to pellets.

mine ate massivore right from the begining i guess im just lucky

mine wouldnt est the massivores at first...he loves blood worms so i would put the massivores in with the blood worms while they were melting down and mix them up and now he eats them just fine

You need to put that ruler in the DIY section LOL.
