Lima shovelnose catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would say definitely not... Not necessarily only cause of size, although you should take that into consideration, but african cichlids generally like different water quality, such as some salt and a higher pH then a lima shovelnose would. And the lima shovelnose might get beat up depending upon what type of cichlids you get and how big they are.

I kept a 16" one in a 75 gal before, but if I had it to do over again I would have put it in a 6' x 3' min tank.

Another issue is that they get spooked really easily, I had issues with ny 13 inch lima in my 180 banging into the glass from being startled. I can only imagine him going ape sh1t in a 75 gallon.

Welcome to the forum, Rob!

I agree with what's been said above.

They are gentler fish and it is usually the best to keep them in a group of at least 6-8, especially when younger. Keep in mind limas reach 2', elongatus 1' - but I'd be helpless to tell them apart.

They are Amazon fish and Amazon has a soft, a bit acidic water on average. They are adaptable however.
