I finally got a video of my Lima Shovelnose shedding some of its mucus. He thrashes around for about 5 minutes or until it all slimes off. My tank parameters are pristine. No ammonia. Is this natural for them to do about once a week? I read everywhere that they do it because of water issues, but my water is perfect. 30% WCs weekly/religiously. I add a little less than 1 tbspn/5 gallons, could this small amount of salt irritate him? He doesn't appear stressed or unhealthy, eats like crazy, very active (even during the day)

Check out the video I posted on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFsjT8JaO1A

recheck your parameters

mine does it at every water change. i believe necro has said a couple of his big cats do it also, but i could be wrong.

Yep...it's normal. My lima and my two rtc do it every time i do a water change.

I keep my tank at 79F just like all of my other tanks. I have heard of RTCs doing this also. I think its kind of cool how they thrash around to sling it off. Very interesting. I took this video yesterday (water change day) But I did not change my water, I will be changing it today. I did a water test yesterday after he finished and everything was perfect. I'll check again today before I do my WC.

mine never does it but hes still a baby monster

mine is 17-18" he does it some times for unknown reasons. My water parameters are pristine. It is normal, kinda gross but normal.
