Can I put a lima shovelnose cat in my 220 gallon tank (72 x 24w x 30h) with a senegal bichir that is about 6-7"? The lima would probably be about 6". Also, what are their growth rates like?

I think eventually the sen will get eaten but would be ok for a while if you had a fully grown sen and a smallish lima.

i've never kept a lima, but i've kept a tsn which is i thing a more aggressive relative of the lima. the tsn was 14" and some of it's tank mates were my 12 bichirs, one of them is a 6 to 7" delhezi and the tsn never bothered my del. just keep the cat well fed and i think evereything should be fine.

Yeah you will and should be fine.

I would just be careful, my Lima who is only about 7 inches already munched on my 3 inch Nandus, and started on the second one, but I was able to pull him out and make him "drop it". I moved him to a larger tank and he has been leaving the larger fish alone, though I worry about my BN plecs... If you get it trained on pellet first then you should have better luck. Mine was not pellet oriented in the beginning, but now he won't really touch anything other than them. You will like watching it scoop up food and then watching it go do a headstand in the corner somewhere. :)

also meant to add, mine has already grown a good inch in the last month and a half that I have had him. So he will probably outgrow your bichir...

i keep a 9" lima and 6" sen cohabing peacefully, limas have small stomachs, not sure if any1 else here has noticed, theyy are built for small amounts of food every day r every other, rather than 1 big feeding per week
