I love the RTC and TSN but I know it may be many years before I can take care of one. I want somthing that won't grow to big but nothing under 12in either. I was thinking of the Lima shovelnose and wondering if anyone could tell me a little more about them and their compatibility with cichlids. What is thier life expectency, diet, water conditions, ect. If you have other sugestions for other cool catfish I would love to hear some info on them as well.

im no expert on cats, but what kind of cichlids do you have? also, i think rtc and tsn need similar setups to the lima.

I have south american setup Oscar JD and GT in a 75gal but I am planning an upgraid to a 125 or larger soon. The cat would not go in untill after the upgraid.

I have two limas, ones around 16" I guess, maybe a touch more, the other is about 12" in a 180 with two oscars, three tinfoil barbs and a large pleco, all get along fine.

They eat pretty much anything as well, lovely catfish.

LSNs get about 18" long instead of 4 feet.

I have five 9 inch Lima shovelnoses with some 7 inch Severums and an 8 inch Joanna Pike. The Limas are very hardy. Mine can eat anything, pellets, flakes, etc. Larger food than flakes are better because of their mouth structure.

That's what I had heard that the lima got to about 18in. I realy want a RTC but i am not that into ponds and it will be a long time untill I can build a tank to keep one so I thought the lima was a nice compermise I think cats add a nice look to a cichlid tank.

thats cool they grow up 20" (allegedly) a neutral PH and a normal temperature are fine, they need a tank of at least 4'x18" for life and they are carnivorous

That's the size tank I have now but I think with my stock I should upgraid first
ok yes i just think that 18" to turn, and 4' of swimming space would be a bare minimum
i am going to get one for my 6'x 18" and i think that it will be enjoyed :D
