hello, just recently bought a 6-7" lima shovelnose. he didnt eat the first day i got him but after that, he is an eating machine. his belly looks like he ate a balloon. is this normal and can they overeat?

I had two for 9 years they don't grow that Big not highly active they do have giant bellys when they eat great for small tanks mine were only 12 inches when they died

12" only? mines almost 7-8". i read they get up to 18" and i hope mine gets that big. he with monsters. can they over eat tho?

They can actually get to 24"+, but it usually takes a very long time. I'm sure it's probably possible for them to overeat, but mine have never done it and I've never heard of anyone else experiencing it. IME, they just eat until they're full, then they stop (which is usually when their stomachs are about twice the size of their heads).

sweet...i specifically picked a lima cause they dont get too big. most of my fish is between 18"-2.5 feet. my lima at like 3 silversides and i think a few rosey red minnows. hi looks prego and from last week, looks like he grew in length already...maybe half an inch. does he grow fast? cause i hoping that my fish all grow at the same time so they all know each other and dont fight.

Unfortunately they don't grow very quickly at all. It usually takes about 2 years for them to get to 12", then another year to reach 13-15". I have seen one exception though; sbuse (a member here) had his lima go from about 6-7" (can't remember for sure) to 12" in under a year, although I got mine 3 days before he got his, and at about the same size as his, and mine are still only 8-9" (got them in February, btw).
