I can't find any info on these. Saw some pics and they look like a regular shovelnose cat. Is there any difference? And how much do they usually cost? I have always wanted a shovelnose but always thought they got too big.

I got mine for ten bucks at my lfs, it was only 2 inches and now it is around 7. Had it for about 5 months or so. I heard different reports on max size 18 to 24 inches is what I heard.

limas are the cheapest of the shovelnoses. Very nice cat as well imo. Never seen one above 18" but heard they can get bigger but should imagine it takes along time.

In uk you would expect to pay £10 - £20 for a juvinile.

Unless your tank is huge the lima will not get much more than 12"-14".They do better in groups of 3 or above and frequently lie nearly vertical in plants waiting for food.

I have had three now for about 3 months, great fish, espicially around feeding time. When I did the research on them I found about what everyone is already said. They don't get as big as most of the other shovels. I really like mine, pretty crazy at feeding time.

Lima shovelnose catfish are really the cheapest shovelnose and smallest, I believe.. and I think they are more peaceful..

Rep, you haven't seen a 4 inch spotted rafael catfish eat a 2 inch Kribensis that was just added... the krib just had to disappear over night..

Mine got up to about 14" in my 90g, then I gave it to a friend who has a rather large tank. It's now in the 2 foot range. These fish have monstrous appetites in case you were wondering. When I had it, it could swallow three good size feeder goldfish in less than a minute. My friend feeds the fish in his tank thawed smelts, and the fish has grown, so I would reckon you can train it to take dead foods.

i agree with him, on how these are active catfish but are very peaceful.
are you still looking for these?

Yeah, great fish. My guy is 8" in a 75g. He is a eating machine. Just make sure the fish you keep them are going to grow as fast so they won't wind up as a meal. I lost two fish to mine.
