i would say quite a while. They arent overly active fish. They are stalking predators so they pick a spot and wait for prey. but mine is still relatively small and young. So someone with a little more experience may say differently.

My experience with these tropical types of catfish has been fast growth. The hybrids of these grow insanely fast. Typically youre probably looking for this fish to double in size every 4-5 months. The amount you feed will be a big factor in growth rate. As would temp. due to metabolism.

Id say a good 12 months they arent a fast growing active fish, id go for a 6x2x2 180 for your final tank.
