I was just drooling over someone's photos of these magnificent cats and started wondering why the price for them is soo high.They must be one of the most expensive if not the most of all catfish.

Beautiful cats, dont know much about them though. I see they come from the Orinoco and Amazon river basins. Various vendors bring in "wildcaught" fish from these regions, so I don't see why these are so hard to find to begin with. Maybe wild populations aren't that plentiful?

I have seen many vendors sell these cats cheap and be forced to retract the sales or up the price because they don't realize before importing that these cats usually come in around 17" and they are thick, heavy cats. I've personally never found them even as small as 12". Usually closer to 20".
