Liner use?

Is it possible to make a DIY tank with a pond liner on three sides and glass on the fourth? I've looked through several threads here and haven't seen that done. Is it because it won't work, or just too expensive?

Nicely done. Now I just need to get started.

I notice these designs don't use any insulation on the three sides without glass. Would that not help retain the heat in the water if one side is glass?

In most cases insulation is not needed but if you are in a cold climate or the tank is going to be someplace where the temp is not controlled it might be a good idea.
