I am in the planning stage of building a 350 gallon plywood tank .. I have read about pond sealant and fiberglass .. has anyone tried using thin glass on the back and sides??? would it work?? would it be cost effective?? (haven't looked into the price of glass yet .. just thinking out loud .. sorta)

I have also read about pond liner being used .. could I cut the liner and line the plywood with it .. each piece individually so there aren't any folds ... assemble then seal the edges???

thanks ..I am sure to have a lot more questions when I start this thing

using glass inside a ply tank would be not the best plan. a liner is fine but cutting it leaves areas to leak. fiberglass is work but so is it all. my opinion is pondliner easiest and less likely to leak. if laid in one peice. or drylok probably the best answer.

what do you want to do.?

I want a 350 gallon tank 96"x36"x24" tall ... the viewing opening would be 90"x18" .. I wanted to use glass so I could put piranhas in it without worrying about their teeth puncturing the folds in liner or scratching thru the pond armour

my plan was to build a plywood tank with 2x4 framing all around and 3/4 ply then use 6mm glass for the bottom and 3mm for the back and sides .. 12mm for the front .. has anyone tried this before??

if you dont think it will work please explain why

thanks

Lining with glass you would have to make sure nothing moves. I personally wouldnt risk it and throw pond liner in. You could cut the peices and seal the edges with the pond liner tape, but I personally would work out the corners and call it a day. Then throw up some acrylic for the window and bolt it in.
