I recall seing a link to a site with inexpensive root tabs but can't find them now. I don't feel like buying a box of seachem tabs so anyone have a link? I know I can make my own too.

You want cheap, go to WalMart and pick up a pack of Jobes Stick for lush ferns and palms. $2 for several years worth. And they work great.
