so as i was setting up my canister filters on my 360 gallon tank I was wondering if there was a down side to using pvc make one giant filter out of multiple canisters. I want to make the outlet one giant spray bar across the whole top of the tank. I figure if i could put valves at the all the points where a canister connects to the system I can take them off for maintenance as needed. I have right now 1 FX5 and 1 405 running my tank right now I have another 405 to add if needed. I for see the benefits being an even distribution of return water to the tank as well as a cleaner looking system using canisters. what other benefits do you see and what are the down sides.

I see no point to connect canister to canister filter. It is still putting out the same gph if conjoined. I personally would run sponges and bio media in all three filters.

But, yes... Using PVC pipes would give the tank a clean look.

I would think that unless each one was putting out exactly the same flow rate, it could potentially affect the other filters...

Probably just a better idea to run two filters... worst comes to worst, you can still use the spray bar idea, but connect one filter to either end of the PVC, and in the middle of the PVC, you can maybe find some way to block the water from passing through so it pushes out the water even more effectively out of the spray bar?

Just my 0.2 cents...

The reason for not "daisy chaining" is the minor differences in the pump outputs creates a push-pull effect, causing heat that wears the motors out prematurely.
However, nothing is stopping you from experimenting. Valves and unions, PVC piping and distribution manifolds when done right always make a cleaner and easier to maintain system. Go to flexpvc.com and check out all the cool distribution manifolds and other pvc accessories.
