There not really nocturnal. If your seeing eradic behavior at night that is probably because of lack of shelter or stress. Lionfish are not known to be nocturnal. My scorpionfish is very perky after I turn off the lights, so I just think it is a comfort level thing for most fish. Because wants the lights go out and all the other fish that are not nocturnal wine down. they feel more comfortable.
