What would be good and bad tank mates with a Lion fish? My wife would like to have some small clowns, blue tang (can you tell she watched nemo?) yellow tangs.. and inverts. I personally would like to see a lion fish, anyone know what would be good with them? I would start off with a 75g salt but I would be eventually upgradeing to a 200g. But with the 200 I want it to be lightly stocked so that I can save on my water changes a bit.

I had lion fish for years with a clown not a problem, recommend buying a small lion fish as they grow fast if given the space. They will eat the clown if you do not feed them but the can be kept together. also recommend a anemone.

i wouldnt recommend cuz lionfish would stress out the clown if its too big to be eaten. so yeah not compatible. its just my own experience

I am keeping a volitan with a maroon clown as we speak and there are no problems whatsoever. I keep the lion well fed though just in case. You will be alright for a little while because the lionfish will outgrow the clown and lionfish always act hungry.

wen u say blue tang do you mean a blue hippo lik dorri from the movie cus if not there is such a fish called a blue tang and it costs a lot more then u want to spend
as for lion fish they sell many types of dwarf species of lionfish that will go perfect with average sized clowns as long as they are bigger than 3in
I would get a fire clown because they tend to be larger than oscilerus or percular clowns and my favorite lion fish that would go perfect with any of these clowns is the fuzzy dwarf lion. you will jus love it because they have agreat personality.
U say ur goin to get a 200g. well maybe if u want a larger specimen of lions then u could go with a black volitan lion they are spectaculatr but u will need to feed ur lion constantly and would have to get a pretty big fire clown like 5 or so inches which is almost full grown
Im tryin to find one rite now for my 230 cus i have 2 black volitan lions and a huge panther grouper and they are all over ten in. plus so ill have trouble finding one but start out small if u do get a bigger species and they will grow up quick
also u dont have to do water changes in saltwater tanks unless something is sick all u have to do is add water to the sump cus saltwater evaprorates constantly. and it does matter how many fish u have in there because it evoprates and u jus add freshwater oh and waterchanges normally throw off the bio in the tank so jus add water and let the sun do the rest

pm me if u got any questions on different types of fish and what can go with wat or what they eat or any other questions

I was at my lfs and they had a 13+ inch Volitans. They got in a new shipment of fish and were adding them to the tanks. They had an 8 " lunare wrasse and had no other tank to put it in. Let's just say happy Volitans:)...............till he died from his meal:( No clown is safe with volitans. With Radiata you could keep marroon, but it would have to be full grown. If she likes Nemo, get Fu manchu Lion only really small clowns are in danger with this guy.

u should of bought it if u new it was gonna get eaten he probly would have sold it cheap

I have a volitans lionfish with a dragon wrasse and a banded shark and believe it or not, 2 blue devils. I like the combo of lionfish and wrasse, they will help keep the sand stirred also. No snails or shrimp with the wrasse though. They will be eaten. A marine beta would be great with the lion also. Or an eel would be good. Here is a pic of a marine beta if you are not familiar.http://www.roozens.com/assets/images/fish/marinebetta.jpg
