I love the lion fish. Anyone have any suggestions for other fish to go with a lion fish in a 100 gallon.

The things I would be concerned about would be fin nipping and aggression. With that said there should really be a lot of fish that should work well with the lion.

medium sized Wrasses
marine betta
small bass (maybe too big for the 100)
small eels (same as above)
foxfaces
some tangs

These are some of the speciesI have seen work with lionfish. And just be clear I am assuming you are referring to P. volitans and not the other smaller species of lions.

Anyway good luck and make sure you take some pics, I can't get enough of P.volitans!!:popcorn::popcorn:

thanks guys. I will definately post some pics. I'm just getting the tank set up so I wont have it for a while but for sure.

Here is my stocking list after a little research.

V. Lion
Snowflake Eel
either an angel or trigger
and a tang.
If I can find a butterfly that can hold its own with these fellas then possibly a butterfly in place of the angel/trigger.

I dont know about your list. In a small tank triggers often end up biting the spines off of lionfish. I guess it will be fine for a year or so but a full grown volitan will also literally take up a 3rd of the space in that tank when his fins are fully spread. Ide maybe look into the smaller species if you want to keep it happy forever.

I've had several lionfishes and have one now. I actually had one that you could fit an orange in his mouth when he yawned.
I can honestly say that I've never even thought about the size or beligerance of the fishes I kept with them.
If they are kept fed mine don't bother small fish at all.
The one I have currently could easily devour every fish I have but doesn't.
I do recall having one of my fish "Bother one of my lions" but it was small and I don't remember what it was. That's what made it unusual was the size disparity. Usually when you introsuce a lion into a tank the prior inhabitants steer clear. I'm sure there are exceptions that some more experienced members could shed some light on

Marine Betta for sure. They are beautiful!!!

how big is the lion now?

there are several other options but i want to know how long the fish has to grow before it's safe from the lion.

also i take it that the lion is a volitans.

I don't even have the lion yet. I ran out of money so my tank was put on hold. I have just recently purchased the live rock and will be setting up my tank.....probably this weekend.

I've kinda shy'd away from the lion fish thing because I've heard a preditor tank can get dirty pretty easy. I want to start with some other fish like some butterflys, clowns, tangs.........but would a dwarf lion work with those smaller fish?
