I have 3 heavly planted tanks on each I would use a diffrent brand of liquid fertlizer I always used the correct dose but one thing all my tanks had was that green string algae my ferts have run out so for 2 months I have not dosed my tanks .My plants are still growing well and the string algae has completly gone. Now I know these liquid ferts always say will reduce algae but the opposite seemed to have happened to me.

Ferts generally just help plants outcompete algae for space and nutrients.

If I recall correctly phosphates can encourage hair algae, could be a contributer. Maybe less dosing is required :)

I cant remember exactly which one but as Hendre basically said, a off balance of ferts can cause certain algaes to appear or disappear...

Maybe your tap water is high in phosphates causing problems when you dose more ferts?
