I was wondering what you guys like to use in your planted tanks. I'm hoping a Mod can make a list.

Generally I think it would fall into two categories.
Worker bees, and contrast color.
Stuff I've seen so far.

Worker Bees that go unseen
Ghost Shrimp

Color contrasting fish
Cardinal Tetras
Neon Tetras
Amano Shrimp
Dwaf Puffer(species tank)
Bleeding heart something?(someone will know the real name for me)
Discus(require a lot of maintenance)
Torpedo barb
Black Arowana(Grows to Monster size fish right?)

Anyone else done/seen anything else?

I would add Black arowana and discus :)

I saw a competition level tank, that had dwarf mbuna in it. From my research they're supposed to be pretty agressive.. How much fighting are we talking? Also, the gentlemen said, that his particular mbuna didnt tear up his plants, because he kept it algae free. Any insight to this? to people with mbuna and plants?

I am partial to the lemon yellow dwarf mbuna, and the blue ones. I saw 1 pic of a purple one. Anyone shed some light for me?

You forgot snails. I'm partial to ramshorn myself. They come in all kinds of colors and they're pretty good @ cleaning up.

Most snails are safe, the columbian ramshorn is a definite no no. They will demolish a planted tank.

I want to make a 55g tank, into a Demasoni and yellow lab tank. With plants. I've seen it done. most people just say, you have to put the right plants in. But even at cichlid-forum.com they dont exactly say which plants. Supposedly the non "soft" plants work best. Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks
Cory

Plants that anchor to wood/rock or have big roots work well. Echinorodus, anubias, java ferns, bolbitis ferns, java moss, etc.

I've also seen people put plants in pots and do quite well in tanks with destructive fish.
