To convert my 125 freshwater to a saltwater reef tank.

Yes, I've had another idea!

I've been looking for a saltwater tank for weeks now...And the thought popped into my head, "Why don't I just use the tank I have right now!?"
So...I'm going to..I think.

Would someone be so kind as to give me a list of the things I'll need to convert it to saltwater?

I know I'll need a hob overflow, because my tank isn't drilled, a sump, protein skimmer, ...?

Oh, and also, how do you recommend selling/giving away about 20 common freshwater fish worth nothing? :D

I recommend taking your fish to an LFS...they might even give you store credit for them.

An overflow, sump, skimmer...is a good place to start.

Lights for whatever you want to do.

Salt.

Means of measuring quantity of salt in h2o.

Heater...which you may already have.

Live rock/aragonite.

Ahhhh...Right. I completely forgot about that...I'll look around for any near me.

Yup, yup andddd yup!

Got that on my list...
Salt.
Hahaha....Orly now? Salt, for a saltwater tank? Got that....

Hydrometer....Got it.
Heater...which you may already have.
Got em...
Live rock/aragonite.
Was going to get about 150lbs. I was thinking of stacking it in the middle of the tank, so from the side, it looks something like this - [_0_] with the '0' as the rock. So there's space on the front and the back for swimming. :D

Thanks fleshy. You da man :)

Kevin, depending on the flow, and price you'd give me, I might just do that. :D

When it comes to rock, do something that gives your fish what they want.

Then do something that you think is visually appealing.

Make sure there are swim throughs and as few dead spots as possible. Make the rockwork as secure as possible.

All of these things are more important than getting a certain ammount of pounds.

You could also throw the fish up on Craigslist and see if you could get a few bucks for them.

Don't skimp on the skimmer. A high quality one would help a lot. Something like an Aqua C EV-180 would do the trick.

You will also need at least 2 powerheads in the tank. Something like Koralia 4's.

You will also need a big container, powerhead, and heater for mixing water changes.

+1 to Flesh on the LR recommendation. 150 lbs. would not stack neatly in the middle, it would take up a ton of room in the tank.

What? That never works...I bet you couldnt even sell a shark on craigslist. :D

It would do the trick. I have dreams about all the tricks it would do for ME. Unfortunately I dont have a thousand bucks to blow on one.

Koralia are hard to beat as far as quality/price.

+1...this is my next upgrade for my 125g tank. A h2o change container/system. Plus Im buying a pump to run my siphon h2o out the window and into the woods. No more 5g buckets up a flight of stairs and out to the driveway.

+1 to you plus you +1ing me. :D

You don't need a grand to buy one, only a half. Fitting you just got how much for your other tank? :naughty:
