Guess where I'll be cast-netting on the weekends. The river is only 2 miles from the house. According to the locals, these Dasyatid rays are caught fairly regularly from mid-summer to mid-fall. Not bad for being 2 1/2 hours from the beach.

how convenient!!!!

Are these rays true cold water fish ?

It's considered "cold-water' in that it doesn't require the higher temps of a tropical environment as is the case with most south american riverine rays. Normal range for these rays is around 59-72 degrees F.

wow nice... show those pics up once you have caught a few.... looking forward to pics of the water and ski and area too...

Are they Atlantic Stingrays - Dasyatis sabina ? Are other freshwater ray species also found there?

Very cool!

Did you move recently or did you just discover that the rays migrate that far upriver?
