Hey Guys and Gals,

First post of many. Long time fish keeper.

90 Gallon Tank
2xRedtail Dorado Barracuda (8")
4x Black Convict- Various sizes, largest 5-6" smallest 2-3"
1x Jade Goby
1x 14" Florida Gar
1xGiant Blue Shrimp (5")
1xGibbecep Pleco (7")

Tank has about 75 lbs of indo rock, various rocks and caves and about 10-15 fake plants ranging in size, but the tank has a nice open swimming space.

My problem: Everyone gets along fine. But everytime I add another Redtail Barracuda, the current one in the tank seems to pick on him all night long, biting him with glancing blows that remove scales. I already lost one about a week or two ago overnight, I'm afraid I will wake up to the same issue tomorrow....

Thoughts? Suggestions? Comments?

Thanks,
FishGeek

The cudas are likely brycon dentex. Many LFS have been getting brycon dentex in for the past month or so.

Judging by wholesalers keeping these in their own tanks, I am going to say they fight a lot amongst themselves.

After searching for a bit for Brycon Dentex, I think you're right. The few pictures that are there, definitely look like my fish.

Greaaat. Looks like from everything I've read that they dont play well with others, I've read one person supposedly had a shoal of 8-9. But he said all the fish have scratched up, torn up bodies. Not my cup of tea.

Hmm. Anyone on LI (Nassau county) want a Brycon, no charge? Hell, I'll drop him off.

If you cannot find a home for him (I recommend charging at least 10 bucks), sell him to a LFS!

PS. Unless that blue shrimp is a blue lobster, I have a bad feeling about him in that tank.

Sounds like Brycon Dentex since most people have been getting those in now and not actual FW Barracudas, These have been known to turn on tank mates when large and go on a killing spree, I think they will eventually eat all of their tankmates.
