I have recently received an oscar that is apparently female and has apparently layed eggs already. What I have heard before about Oscars is that they don't reach sexual maturity until they are fully grown and she is only about 7" in length. Have others had young/small oscars lay eggs before? I thought that perhaps she was older, maybe stunted, but she shows no real signs of that. She is properly shaped and looks as though she was quite well looked after (other than the fact that her tail is nipped a bit from the smaller JD that she was living with). Feedback?

Its hard to predict at which point the fish will mature, I think it greatly depends on the diet and the way the tank is taken care of. In any case I think its a good sign, get her a male of the same size. :)

Fish are diffrent...and another thing when they reach there sexuality...they will mate with anything...my friend has a green terror and a male oscar the famale keeps on laying the eggs...LOL but the oscar just is like w/e

7" is just about the time when they reach sexual maturity.

:iagree: around 6-7" is when most oscars will reach maturity so there's nothing abnormal about your oscar. you can try finding a male to go with her but as hard as oscars are to sex added with the fact that yours is already mature will make adding other fish pretty difficult. :)

thats nice know only if you had a male oscar that is the real task at hand lol
