It's currently about 4-5" and will only eat Hikari pellets. Little punk.

What does a "full necklace" mean anyway?

better than only eating feeders, thats the most common problem. im still a newbie with dats but i think that the necklace is the stripe right behind the head/gills of the dat, not many datd have a full necklace, yours almost does though.

Thanks for the info. Mine has about 1/8" of an inch between the two ends of the black markings.

I'm not complaining that it only eats pellets, it just won't touch the krill, shrimp, and earthworms I toss in. I like variety.

weird, usually its easier to get them on the meaty foods, and harder to get them on pellets.

It's never been anything but stable, but I've never had a dat before so I might be claiming something that isn't true.

How big was he when you first got him?

Pretty tiny. 2-2.5"? It's grown about 3" in 6 months, which seems to be the growth rate for these guys.

Though I'm terrible at judging size.
