Been workin on a 150 gallon tank stand that I just got. Tank came with a wrought Iron stand wrapped in cheesy paneling and it looked like total crap not to mention the legs were bowing out( The stand underneath the tank on the picture is the piece of crap). So I said what the hell I want to build one.
Got 4x4 uprights notched out on two sides to fit over the 2x3 and so the 2x4 rest on top. I used 2x3 for the bottom because I had a 10 ft 2x6 already and all the 2x3 is doing it holding the verticals in place. Not really the most structural part so.. Anyways very simple stand. When I built my 125 stand I built the damn to hold a dump truck on top and I didn't feel it was really crucial to build 5 frames lag screw them together then run carriage bolts across them like I did my other one.
Anyways I decided to go on the expensive side and grab me some 1x4 tongue and groove Red Cedar for $2.70 a foot and I got 108 feet of it to wrap the stand up with it. Was going to go with Mahagony but can't beat the smell and look of cedar. Also picked up some nice copper handles and hinges that look great.
This is my new midas's tank Spent about $300 on the stand $250 on the tank $200 on decor and sand $800+( All Eheim 2-2217 2028 2080) on filtration so the damn fish better like it lol.
Here's the work in progress.
