so i got home today from being gone overnight, so my tank light had not been turned on this morning. so i turned it on to feed my puffers, and first thing i see is a little puffer fish ball, laying on top of a ceramic pot with not tail. he looked like a little ball. he looked at me and started flailing his little fins and i was like "oh my god, what happened to you???" i was horrified. and then i look down and laying in the sand at the bottom of the pot was my other one, same as the first, no tail, flailing his little fins and looking at my and i was just like "oh my god, you poor little things! oh my god what happened??" and then the one on top of the ceramic flower pot got up and swam away, and then the other. apparently while these guys are sleeping they must curl their tail completely up to their side, but i've never noticed them sleeping like this before, because they usually sleep in the sand under a piece of driftwood, facing the front of the tank, so i just see them from the front and not the side. they're so cute. i just figured i'd share the story :]

Ummmmm... so let me get this straight, theres nothing wrong with your puffers, just that you noticed they curl their tails when they sleep??? in which case, thats pretty normal...

Yep

yeah i know it's normal. i didn't say there /was/ anything wrong. just said i figured i'd share the story. nevermind then. didn't know someone would have a problem with it.

I don't think anyone has a problem... you're the one that said, and I quote "i was like "oh my god, what happened to you???" i was horrified." <---That made me assume something was wrong also. Don't get all emotional over someones ( that is experienced with puffers obviously ) little comment.

i'm sorry, i wasn't trying to seem emotional over it. i'm not saying they're not experienced, i just felt when i read it that they were implying that why the heck would i post if i didn't have a problem. like i said, i came home and they looked like something had chopped the back end of them off, because they've never slept facing sideways before and i didn't realize that they curled their tails /all/ the way up when they slept. when you keep reading i say that they swam away and were fine, and that it had been something i did not realize. but at that point in the story i /had/ thought there was a huge problem. but they way they posted it sounded like they were saying so wait, you don't have a problem, you just thought you did? yeah, that's what they do..... with a lot of dots like they posted it seems to me like they felt i shouldn't have bothered posting, which like i said, i didn't realize someone would feel that way, and if i had read someone's thread and realized that it wasn't a big deal and i didn't have something to actually say about it, i would just be like "oh, okay" and not bother posting it.. and again, i'm not getting emotional over anything, just saying the vibe it gave off to me. and again again, not emotional, but what they said didn't have much to do with whether or not they have experience with the fish except that they said "yeah, that's normal......", which i had already said.

I enjoyed your story! Asleeping ball of puffer sounds cute ;3

What kind of puffers are they?

yeah, it was cute. especially after i was sure that they were okay, lol. they made me think of little puppy dogs, being all curled up like that with their big eyes looking at me. they're just two little green spotteds. my brother bought them at a walmart a few months ago [without researching them or knowing what kind of fish they are or what they do] because he thought they were cool and put them in my mom's ten gallon community tank, where they [of course] promptly began chasing the other fish. no one was hurt but they were taken out right away and my brother put them in their own ten gallon, kept them for two days, and then told me that if i didn't take them he'd flush them. they're incredible adorable and i love having them, but they're a little inconvenient because i had to set up their own tank for them with brackish water, and i can't really get any other fish to put in there with them
