Little red bugs on the feeder pinkie?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
One of the rat breeders that I used years ago had a problem with little red mites on his rodents, I used to freeze the feeders first and then thaw out and feed. But I really dont think it would hurt your snake to feed right away as those mites do not "attach" to reptiles and are not parasitic.

alright yah i looked up tiny red bugs and got running mites that usually hunt other mites had me worried thou i wouldn't want to get a mite infection from a feeder pinkie. Thanks for puttin me at ease

Have you tried feeding pre-killed frozen thawed yet? Then you mind would REALLY be at ease. LOL!

yah i was goin freeze this guy but i didn't know if the bugs could last through the cold of the freezer from now on thou i m goin order like a bag of 100 off line from rodentpro if they ever get any in. I think the online sellers feed their mice better food anyway so its better for the snake. Do you still use a breeder or get them online? I also put some shirts over her so she won't be overly stressed out because her cage is near my door is that ok for her to have something over the cage?

Mites that feed on warm bloods don't ussually feed on reptiles. But better to plsafe, eh?

Agree, I wouldn't want to feed them... on principle. It's fine to cover over the tank, as long as it a) won't set on fire or b) you still know the temp. is correct.
