I got curious, syphoned a few cups of water, put it in a clear glass jar, gave it 20 minutes to settle, and above the dirt and waste, there arethese almost micro scopic with things swimming around, andd I have no doubt that they are alive and harmful. some of them (I imagine preganant femasles) have a very thin transparent link to another white whatever-they-are. what are they, and how do I get them out of the tank without harming the fish?
The history of the tank: its a 40 tall, and has been up for 2-3 monthes. we had to cram an already overstocked 55 into it to improve on the 55, and lost a fish a week. We put them back in the 55 over a month ago. now it has 2 5-7 inch dojo loach (from the 55), a 7" carapo knife (with slight case of what looks like HITH, but is also by is gills and the small creaters are white, like the things in the water. bought it like that. eating fine.), and in my mind the most likely colprite, a 4" pink kissing gorami, given by my aunt who knows nothing of fish. She feeds goldfish flakes and never changes the water. the tankthe gorami came from was a 10 gal with it a 5 inch pacu, 2 five inch plecos (not dwarf), a thick, mold-like covering over the gravel, no filter, and an airstone with a motor that half the time didn't even work.

oh, and the fiter is a whisper in-tank filter for a 10 gal (didn't have any extra) I just called the pet shops. the pet palace said that they would be closing eraly, but if i brought in a sample, they could look at it. Eral May, mainly a plant store, with a good fish section, Well i got the manager and he said that the fish employee was still scoping his drivway to get his car out and would not be in, but he said it might be fish lice, although he does not know much on fish. so I can just rely on forums today, and get samples to the 2 lfs tommarow. I hope this is not in my blood parrots tank as well. Could i see some pics of unatached fish lice, and a fish with fish lice?

Fish lice (argulus) are much larger, do a keyword search (argulus) and it will bring you to past threads with pictures).
These being so small could be several harmless copepods or even daphnia but since they are concentrated near the gills they might be Ergasilus, here is a picture. There are a couple strains but most can be killed with salt at 2 teaspoons/gallon for 3 days or so, no need to raise the temperature. If they are salt resistant any anti-ich med will kill them.
