Live feeder alternatives

My friend feeds his cichlids frozen silversides. I want to continue feeding my jag fish but i know store bought feeders are risky. Are frozen silversides a good alternative? And this might be a stupid question but i think they are saltwater fish so is it ok to feed them to freshwater ones?

Yes, they are ok.

All the SA cichlids i have had loved silversides with the exception of my peacock bass, but they are still pretty much only eating live food.

try cocktail shrimp too....my jag loves them

shrimp should work great too. A varied diet is always a good idea too.

I also use market shrimp,shell and all really helps red/orange color fish colors to really pop

Freezing does not kill many types of parasite but it does kill some, I have often used salt water bait fish as food for FW fish but never as a steady diet, as others here have stated variety is good. Clam meat, shrimp, live shrimp, crickets, and earthworms all make good food.

Some species eat raw bovine/ chicken meat. Low-fat, for sure.
Oh, most insects are nice too.
