if i were to feed live. i would quarintine for awhile or raise my own feeder. feeder goldfish are massive produce they may carry diseases and such.

I think live food should be fed, but carefully. I buy them in bulk and add a ton of chemicals, and fatten them up for a month. I like keeping my fish naturally agressive and its good to keep their natural hunting instincts. Just my .02

feeders, they also make fish more aggressive. It's true that in the wild they eat other fish, however, it's no different than say domesticating any animal for home life. You don't want an aggressive animal for a pet. Eating live makes a fish loco and they think they are in the Amazon, that don't play well in my house lol. It might be ok if all your fish were large and the only small fish in the tank were feeders, then it should be fine, more like sport. I could go for that, might be fun to watch like football or fishball lol

depends on what you are feeding them to, silver arowanas tend to get eye drop from looking down at feeders and chasing around tank, I try to feed them stuff that floats, that is why some feed mice, but also goldfish are raised to grow fast and not a lot of good nutrients in them. Rosies are better but frozen with vitamins added even better. Plus frozen tends to kill most diseases "most"

Feeding live feeders is not bad for the fish.. It's just that theres the chance of spreading disease as well as fish not getting enough nutrients they need. I honestly don't see the need to be using live feeders because 1, comparing 1 feeder to a quality pellet and it's obvious which is better for your fish. Most people try to make excuses as to why fish need to eat fish like thats what they eat in their wild habitat. Well, they're in a glass box, I see nothing natural about that. Besides, fish in the wild eat a wide assortment of food, not just other fish.

Thanks for all the info and i do treat my feeders before they get fed to my big fish . And for the aggression thing they arnt dogs that can get out and bite someome they are in a glass tank lol i personaly love that they r so aggresive i really enjoy watching them eat and so do alot of my friends. But thanks again for all he info really appericate it

I think this topic has been done a few times. There's nothing wrong with feeding live, but I wouldn't advise feeding live goldfish. They aren't very nutritious and they are very fatty. I feed live crays and cichlids, which are much healthier choices.

If this topic has been done before i appoligze for doing this again but im am new to mfk and have read alot of the posts but there r too many to read all
