This should maybe a sticky somwere in this forum. There are people who dont mind feeding there fish goldfish, rosies, minnows but are against feeding other large fish and why i dont know. Its kinda like saying ill hunt rabbits but not deer. To me this is totally hypocritical as all fish share the same body and mind and feelings if they have any feeliings at all.
This is suppose to be monster fish keepers which in my mind means anything goes so i dont think it is right to let some threads go when someone shows there fish eating a goldfish and deleting other threads thats shows a bigger predator such as snakeheads, wolffish, pirahna eating much larger fish that such as bluegill or what not as that is what it takes to fill a tummy of a larger predator then a smaller predator that many people show feeding on goldfish and such. It cant be two sided. Its either live fish are for food or prepared only. I hate to see pics or vids of people feeding there fish goldfish and minnows only to see another topic get deleted because they fed there fish something bigger. maybe im wrong but i think its hypocritical. post ur vote and ty.

Good luck getting much response on that one. Try referring to the human aspect of it all. The MAJORITY of people would be against feeding live popular fish for purposes of thrill or bragging rights. What is the point of feeding an arowana or oscar to some ravenous fish? Nothing at all. It is just not necessary.

Allowing those vids of people standing around the tank watching a helpless popular fish slowly getting killed is immature and unnecesary and is NOT what MFK is all about. That fish that is "something bigger" mostly gets chomped on over and over and dies a slow death rather than goldies or rosies that get inhaled. Why not just feed it something that is readily available at market such as tilapia or salmon or equivalent?

I feed my bass rosey red feeder fish. thats what the LFS sells them for. I wont feed then small game fish tho. just more feeders as they grow

I feed any surplus fish to other fish but only if it is an appropriate size, Feeding large fish to small ones such as koi to smaller Ps is messy and unnessesarily cruel, they do fine on smaller feeders. Comparing this to hunting rabbits but not deer is a false analogy. Both the deer and rabbit are killed quickly if you do it correctly. To make your analogy more correct you would have to be hunting the deer with a .22 short and have the der penned in a small cage, then just peck away at it until it died.

If the fish being fed is an appropriate size to be taken in 1 bite like a rosy or feeder I would say it's okay. But to have that fish bitten time and time again is cruel and unnecessary.

all of the above posts are correct IMO, but also, the only reason that feeders were born in the first place was so that they could die later on. arowanas and oscars etc. were born to be pets, and that is what bothers some people.

another way of looking at it is: cows are born to be eaten, but dogs are meant to be pets, which is why we think that it is sick and evil for someone to eat a dog, but its perfectly normal for someone to eat a hamburger.

Good analogy, it all comes down to morals, personal preference and maturity. Some people think fish have rights and could never eat a pet, some people think fish are just 1/2" peice of glass away from being dinner themselves.
