Just looking for some opinions on feeding live food. Does this make the fish more or less aggressive? I know to watch out for bacteria and what not. I have a fairly aggressive tank, oscars, jag, jd, gt, salvini, lyonsi, are some of my more aggressive fish. They're all gettin along great and I don't want to feed them live and have them turn on eachothers. If you could please share your opinions and stories, good / bad. Thanks, Eddie

It's my personal opinion live foods keep predators less frustrated. Less frustration may lead to less nuisance aggression. This is one of the things I do, but I include a large variety of foods and offer live foods a couple of times each month. Most of the fishes I keep are primarily piscavores. Why would I want to deny them natural behavior?

This is only my opinion and not advice. I can't read fish minds. But it works well for me.

Yea, I've heard yes and no on the live food. I would only do it once a month or so, just for a treat. They're all eating pellets, cichlid sticks, brine shrimp, bloodworms and beef heart. Fairly good variety, just want to watch them destroy something!!:D

I used to feed goldfish feeder (I know better now). They were awesome to watch get taken out by my oscar and pike. But after reading some problems with feeders I picked up a pair of convicts and can't wait till I can give them live food again. I do give them crickets and other bugs, but thats not as much fun (not much chasing).

I feed majority of my fish live food a few times a month in addition to prepared food and nls you just have to really watch your feeders especially commets

My favorite live food of choice are crayfish. Almost impossible to transmit diseases, they contain high amounts of carotene for color, they're a natural part of most cichlids diet, and if they don't get eaten right away they help keep the tank clean. I feed them quite heavily when I can catch them easily in the warmer months.

crayfish are great, ghost shrimp, earthworms, crickets, and meal worms. all good for your fish. fun to watch them eat. not harmfull. but if you must feed feeders buy a bunch throw em in a tank or pond QT em for about a month or two in a good salt mix then feed em to your guys. or breed cons and feed the fry to your fish.

I've lost a few fish to feeders..............no sa/ca's mostly half-scale or tetra fish such as piranha and vampire tetras the diseases attacked them so fast they were dead before I knew they were sick. My P's now eat Imitation crabmeat and I've completely given up on Vamp's.....................I did not use a quarinteen tank for a month with the feeders that might have helped alot. I just feed my SA/CA's prep food cuts down on the waste or so the bags say.

Thanks everyone for your input. No on the gold fish, is there any fish that a lfs would carry that is better than the goldfish? I really don't want to start up a feeder tank but I guess if I have to I will :(
