Does anyone else feed the Polys live food, i.e. tetra's etc.

My LFS had a special on tetras yesterday and I bought 10 for £5! I put them in my tank and this morning they were magically all gone?!

My other half thought this was mean! Am I really mean putting in 'feeders'?

Mine get feeders rarely and only after quarantine.Live feeders are risky because they can transmit many problems into your system and while bichirs are hardy fish in general
if they get something it can cost a small fortune to cure them-Anne

Mine has eaten 2 month old guppies. He also gets fathead minnows, but seems to only like the golden ones. He polished off two rosy reds, but has shared his tank with a normally colored one since Sunday. A matter of time I hope.

Aww he has a pet lol

lol the tetra's didn't last a day! Although a fe months back I had some dalmation mollies that lasted a week, I thought they were too big to eat but they went! :(

Great to watch though!

I really want my bichir to eat the minnow. He nipped at it tuesday sometime and took off a bit of its caudal fin. Hasn't really chased it much since hes getting quite a few deformed guppies that are floundering a bit as they swim.

Be very careful and listen to what Anne says. I didn't. I thought, "yea yea I don't have time to quarantine these things... or the room... and it's cool to watch them eat so I'll just pick up a few dozen". Mkay yeah. I got away with it a few times. Then not so much. I had a BEAUTIFUL female Koliba named Dusty... she got something from the feeders. It led to septicemia. I spent a small fortune on meds, and nothing worked. She had been the centerpiece of the collection - our pride and joy. If you don't have the time to quarantine feeders, or a spare tank to do it in, stick to the regular foods.
