Hi everyone. I don't feed my fish feeders because I'm afraid of getting parasites or worms in my fish. Also, I just don't have the heart to feed live fish. I know that even quarantine live feeders can give your fish diseases but I was wondering about other live foods. I do feed my fish gut-loaded mealworms but can they and crickets etc... give your fish diseases. Also, I feed my fish raw shrimp and raw squid but I also wondered about them too. I've never had any problems feeding mealworms, raw shrimp and raw squid but is there any chance of illness. Thanks, Ed.

Yes, still a slightly small chance of illness. I assume the raw shrimp and squid is frozen. Below 0 C will kill most kind of parasites. But it will not destroy most of bacteria. It will only stop growth of them, and make them inactive. But I think it's safe to feed your fish with frozen raw shrimp and squid. I have feed my fish with frozen squid and shrimp, and they never get sick.

Yeah, is soon as I cut the raw shrimp and raw squid I immediately put them in the freezer. What about the gut-fed mealworms. When I buy the mealworms, I immediately put them in fresh oatmeal and veggies. I just want to know if the mealworms won't give my fish any diseases.
