Forgive me, I've kept live plants multiple times but really don't know how to care for them.
It's always been I throw them in and they will live but I always hit issues along the way till cold weather finally kills them. My tank was unheated before so this time I don't anticipate losing any plants over winter.
The last time I brought plants in over the winter I only had hornwart and vallisneria. I don't remember why the vallisneria died, or if I ended up tossing it. The hornwart needles broke off and clogged my intake and just made a mess.
At the time it had one male betta, 10 trapdoor snails and babies that always died, and a buttload of spiral snails that hitchhiked in. All in a little 10gl ment to winter them till spring.
Now I'm trying to figure out what went wrong.
Oops, wasn't supposed to post yet.
Do bubblers damage plants or effect the water in a way that makes them die? Was it likely because it wasn't heated and the temp dipped down to 50f? Or are the snails to blame?
I felt like after I added a long bubbler stone is when they really started dropping needles/leaves. Was that just a coincidence?
