I live in South Carolina and live right near a lake. I was wondering if i could just go down to the lake and get some plants out of thje lake and see if they will grow in the tank. i have a 90 gallon with play sand substrated do you think this will work?

Yes they are growing well, I was more worried about they harming the fish.
I say they grow ok, because I am plant dumb, and until this week have not dosed any fertz, and have only been adding carbon for about 3 weeks. Yet the plants have not died, and teh roots have been esablishing them selfs in my soil.
