What is the correct way to store live and base rock when tearing down a saltwater aquarium. I realize they will all become base rock and ornaments for a future setup. Do I bleach them and scrub off algae before storing them?

Ouch. Having been there, I hate to even remember doing it.

I had good success just putting it all out in the sun and letting it die and smell. Then a freshwater bath with some scrubbing over a few days. Then back into the sun to dry and rot off whatever is left. Once the smell subsides, just store it covered with a sheet in a dry location where it won't collect toxins like furniture polish or garage chemicals.

Cycle cycle cycle the tank once you rebuild with it in the future and go slow if you aren't certain what has been around the rocks in storage.

Have you tried selling it off to other hobbyists in the area? Give them a great deal and tell them you expect some help when you set up again.

Good luck,
/Kris
