live rock/corals in shark tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I always went by a pound to pound and a half per gallon of water for your rock. Mushrooms are ok, I had frogspawn with my shark but always had issues with him landing or knocking it over. I'm sure others could give you a better view of what they think. I personally didnt go to crazy with the corals but to just add a little spice to the tank with just a few in the center. Hope that helps.

I wouldnt recomend "normal" amounts of live rock for a shark tank... they are better off with more swimming room and less rockwork. As a result you gennerally need better bio-filtration in your sump (bioballs, floss etc). You can have corals in a shark tank assuming the water parameters are stable enough, you just want to make sure hey are securly mounted to heavy/stable rocks.

I agree with lesser rock. Like with rays too. Sharks need swim space more than rock to hide behind or anything. And they like sand bottoms to sleep on!

add a sump and put most of your rock in there. This will give him more swimming space..
Can add in coral, but had to be were he will not mess it up. So there are fake rocks that hold on the the glass with a magnet, can get those, put them at a high to mid level area were he will not mess them up. Just get a coral rock background that will help hide the fact you have fake rock on the glass in verious places.. Get the idea?

you dont need any rock if you like, just be shure to have enough bio filtration and your good to go. i have about 100lbs in my 180 though covering a 6" pipe that the sharks hide in, and the rock provides hiding places for all my other fish.

i agree ,with shark tanks[ imo]the rock is only there to provide some thing similar to a natural habitat, somewhere to hide and feel relaxed. filter media and skimming should be the basis of you fitration along with water movement
