Hey all,

Getting ready to order my live rock & wanted to ask some quick advice.

I'm going to be just using the live rock, hob protein skimmer & koralia jets soley on my 55g FOWLR tank and wanted to check on if I need to get more rock because of that. I was planning on getting 60lbs of Fiji premium, mostly because it's within an affordable price. I could push it to 70-75lbs but would rather not have to spend the extra $ unless is necessary.

Will getting the 70+ now really be more beneficial or will I be ok with just the 60lbs?

Thanks in advance!

It depends on how porous the rock is, but I would stick with 60 pounds. You still want to have room to stock with fish and allow them ample swimming room.

i would get 65+ just to make sure you can aquascape it realy neat i hate not haveing 1pound + a gal on my tank

As long as both are cured, I'd go with either one. If one's not cured, then that's still okay, but you're going to have to know what to do with it when you get it, whereas if it's cured, you can just throw it in the tank. Even if you choose by how good the rock looks, know that it's probably going to look completely different in a year or so, because of algae growth. We have some rock we paid four dollars a pound for, and some we paid ten dollars a pound for, and both look pretty much the same now -- purple. They look like purple blobs, and some is expensive purple blob and some's cheap purple blob LOL. So, personally, I'd go with the cheapest, as long as it's cured.

Got it guys, I'll double check, I think I'm going to go with the Fiji Premium getting a good price on about 65lbs or so.

Is this Fiji rock, I love the look of this tank, that's what I'm going for, minus the corals & whatnot:

60 lbs is good... that is a nice tank up there... needs some more fish though...

Thanks for your advice everyone. I ended up ordering 40lbs of dry Fiji base rock & 40lbs of Fiji Premium live rock. I wanted to have enough to work with and not blow my savings :). It's the worst when you don't have enough for aquascaping, hate that.

I will post pics when I get it all, can't wait!
