so I was thinking about buying some live rock and dripping it down to 1.016 ...

personally I would be happy to gain some bacterial diversity, any one have any experiences?

Lots of death to the creatures/bacteria inside the rock, ammonia & nitrite.

i was once thinking the same in my puffer tank, i was thinking of getting a 5 gallon bucket and placeing the same sg as my tank mine is at 0.017 and alow some die off and addaptation. but i figured natural selection happends ovor millinia and not in instintly so i decided not to. i did how ever get a bunch of lave rock from the oregon cascades which is now live in a matter of speaking just not the same, i was thinking about buying some live salt bio microbes which ive heard after sg 0.015 is ok to do. but ill wait till i get a skimmer

Yes, life has evolved over millions of years, and adaptability is a trait that allows many life forms to survive where others would perish. Thus I went out and bought two pieces of rubble to seed my tank. At around 1/2 a pound of LR, I dripped it down and placed it directly in my tank figuring that there isn't enough bio matter to cause a major crisis.

It has been about 10 days and can't really comment on how it is doing either way, but the bright red patches are maintaining their colour which is a good sign.

cool keep me posted, i might try it if it works out!!

Well my first two pieces are well established and spreading, not sure what it is but there is life.

I have added a couple of second pieces of rubble to further diversify.
