I am noticing that I have less and less time to do regular water checks so I was thinking about the Live all the time testers that you put in the water. Has anyone used them? I think the company is Merkel? Are they accurate enough to trust?

I can't remember which company I used before. I believe it was Seachem. I had the ammonia and pH readers. I got rid of the ammonia as it was almost useless (always added Prime to each WC and I change about 50% weekly). No worries there. As for the pH, the color might've been good for a few days, then the little color indicator started to dull/milky looking and I had no idea how to read it.

IMO not worth it. besides, the money for those things add up in the long run. piece of plastic for like $10 lol. One way to reduce the rate of nitrates is get a powerhead.. keeps all the detritus and food suspended in the water for the filter to catch. then clean the filter more often. my point is after getting a powerhead (or someway of getting good circulation), it takes less time to clean a filter than to do a WC.

what fish do you have? tank size?

Seachem makes some good products for that I hear. However, it would be awesome if someone made an accurate Nitrite one :D. I think it is difficult since two chemical mixtures are required for the results

The Seachem ammonia one works great. It is very useful when cycling a new tank. The PH one always gives me a color not on the chart.

The Mardel one does not last long.
